White River Jct., Vermont – Lowell Joseph McPherson, 85, died at his home in Wilder, Thursday, March 21, 2019. He was born February 3, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Frank J. and Florence A. (Wilson) McPherson.
He grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Bishop Loughlin high school. He went on to further his education at St. Michael's College in Burlington, VT where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1956.
In 1962 he married Jeannine G. Belanger of Morrisville, VT, and they made their home in Flushing and Stoney Brook, NY. They moved to Medfield, MA in 1970 and finally settled in Hanover, NH in 1978 where he and Jeannine raised their five sons.
Lowell was a regular at the Hanover Country Club where he has been a member for most of the past 40 years. He also enjoyed biking, surf fishing and skiing.
Lowell was a dedicated member of the Upper Valley AA community. He had achieved more than 50 years of sobriety, was active in the community and frequently spoke of the support and friendships the group provided for him.
He was predeceased by his wife, who died in 2007 and his older brother Frank McPherson.
Lowell is survived by five sons, Lowell J. McPherson Jr. and his wife, Wendy of Bedford, NH, Bryan F. McPherson and his wife, Heidi, of Lebanon, NH, Christopher J. McPherson and his wife, Jen of Brookline, NH, Thomas W. McPherson and Kim of Willoughby, Ohio, James M. McPherson and his wife Holly of Lawrenceville, Georgia, grandchildren, Noah, Brodie, Ava, Emma, Owen, Elliot, Fiona, Keegan, Cole, Brandon, Mary-Margaret, and several nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 30 at 12 noon at St. Denis Church in Hanover, NH . A private burial will be held in Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover, NH.
Memorial contributions may be made to Upper Valley Turning Point via the Second Wind Foundation, 200 Olcott Drive, White River Junction, VT 05001.
