Quechee, VT- Louise M. Young, 84, died Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness.
Louise was born May 8, 1938, in Lebanon, NH, a daughter of James and Arlene (Fogg) Calvi. She grew up in Hingham, MA and graduated from Hingham High School in 1956. Louise went to work for a time at John Hancock in Boston, MA. While visiting an aunt in Quechee, she met her future husband in 1958; it was love at first sight. They were married in 1959 in Hingham and made their home in Quechee, where they have lived since. Louise stayed home and raised their family. She enjoyed selling Avon, and worked at home as a seamstress making napkins. Once the kids were all done with school, she took a job with the US Postal Service and worked as a clerk, filling in for Post Masters in Quechee, West Hartford, and North Pomfret Post Offices. She retired from the Post Office in 2002.
Louise enjoyed watching the New England teams both the Patriots and the Red Sox, reading, doing the daily crossword, Sudoku, and camping. She loved to care for her family and home she loved to cook and was well known for her signature dish of spaghetti and meatballs. She was the best mom ever and will be missed by many of the children of Quechee, who claimed her as a second mother.
Louise is predeceased by a brother, James Calvi, Jr. and three sisters, Elsie Houston, Patricia McWilliams, and Dianne Robinson.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Merton Young of Quechee, two sons, Scott Young of Jericho, VT and Jim Young of Norton, VT; two daughters, Debra Remick of Hartland, VT, and Karen Clough of Quechee; 8 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5-7PM Monday, July 18, 2022, at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, July 19th at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. Interment will be in the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be expressed to Louise's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com .
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Jimmy Fund.
