IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louise May
(Atwood) Sawyer
October 4, 1936 – May 7, 2022
Louise M. Sawyer, 85 died on Saturday morning, May 7, 2022 at the Sullivan County Healthcare Facility after a long illness.
Louise was born on October 4, 1936, in Hanover, the daughter of Francis and May (Read) Atwood of Plainfield, NH.
She graduated from Windsor High School in 1954. Louise has enjoyed planning for and attending class reunions with her classmates over the ensuing years. Immediately following graduation, she married Ellsworth G. "Sonny" Sawyer, Jr, at the Plainfield Community Church, on June 26, 1954. They spent their first married days in California where Sonny was stationed in the US Army.
Returning to Plainfield, their first daughter, Viola was born in 1955, followed by Carol, nearly ten years later in 1964. Louise was a lifelong resident of Plainfield, until she required assistance and went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Claremont.
Louise put her secretarial and bookkeeping skills to use over the years working for PR Publishing in Meriden, Airkem VT-NH, and William A. Smith Auctions. She proudly opened up her own venture of Sawyer's Market on Westgate Road, in 1983, serving locals with her friendly nature for several years. She also worked as a Sales Agent for Nationwide Insurance and enjoyed her time as a Consultant for Park Lane Jewelry.
Louise was a member of the Plainfield Community Church, the Blow-Me-Down Grange, Plainfield Historical Society, the Windsor High School Alumni Association, the USS Belle Grove LSD-2 Association, and Chapter E-NH of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Louise loved the ocean, swimming, country music, watching her soaps operas, and spending time with her many friends. Most of all she loved her large extended Read/Rogers family, and being Mom, Gram, and GiGi. She will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Sonny, her youngest daughter, Carol F. Sawyer, her brother, Caleb F. Atwood, and a very special significant other, Wallace F. "Wally" Hentschel, and his daughter, Beth Ann (Hentschel) Pickett.
Once you joined the family, she loved everyone as if they were her very own, lovingly, and equally. Louise is survived by her daughter and "son"-in-law, Viola and Edgar "Sonny" Lunderville of Claremont, granddaughter and "grandson", Tracey (Lunderville) and Todd Rivard of Claremont, grandson and "granddaughter", Cory and Kelly Lunderville of Jacksonville, Florida, great-granddaughter, Brittany Peebles of Charlestown, great-grandson, Brady Lunderville, great-granddaughter, Brooke Lunderville, and great-grandson, Bryce Lunderville all of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by children of Wally, William and Sally Hentschel of Rockland, MA and David and Bonnie Hentschel of Ferrisburg, VT and the families of the Hentschel children. As well, she leaves behind several very close cousins, nephews, and nieces.
