IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louis Paul
Scibetta
August 31, 1935 – December 14, 2025
Louis Paul Scibetta, a dedicated healthcare executive who treasured his family above all, died on December 14, 2025. He was the attentive and loving husband of 68 years to Rosemarie (Langford). Their profound connection was perhaps best symbolized by their decision to share a single email address since the advent of the internet.
Born in Erie, PA, on August 31, 1935, Lou was the youngest of five. His father was a physician, and his mother was from a large local family, which gave him countless funny stories he loved to share. He attended grade schools in Erie and high school at Staunton Military Academy in VA. Lou earned his BS in Economics at Allegheny College in 1957, where he was class president twice and a seasoned prankster. He married his college sweetheart, Rosemarie, from Cleveland, OH, immediately upon graduation, and then earned an MS in Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan.
Lou's professional life began serving in hospital systems at Castle Air Force Base in CA and Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MI. In 1965, he, Rosemarie, their four children under five and a dog drove to Lake Placid, NY, where he became Administrator at Placid Memorial Hospital.
The family moved to Rocky Hill, NJ, in 1969, where Lou co-founded a healthcare consulting company before joining the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) in Princeton, NJ. He was a tireless advocate, lobbying for hospitals and the patients they serve, rising to become President and CEO for 20 years until his retirement in 1994.
Lou and Rosemarie were deeply involved in Montgomery Township, NJ, where they raised their four children and remained for over 30 years. Lou coached baseball and basketball for his three sons' youth programs and Rosemarie was a beloved school teacher who ran the school newspaper and literary magazine. His greatest treasure was the big, high-spirited, loving family around them and the meaningful, enduring friendships they built, including those from Allegheny College and the famous "Princeton NJ Bridge Group," who gathered for 50 years without playing much bridge.
In retirement, they moved to Quechee, VT, where Lou loved playing golf and was an active community member, serving on various boards for the Quechee Club. For 20 years, they hosted large, raucous family gatherings, where "Grampa Lou" always made sure everyone was having a blast.
Lou and Rosemarie were dedicated lifelong learners at ILEAD/Osher at Dartmouth, and passionate travelers, notably journeying to Russia and China in 1984 with Eisenhower's People to People organization. In 2020, they moved to Kendal at Hanover, NH.
Lou had a special magic—he would look people in the eye and make them feel like they were the only person in the room. Even as his memory began to fade in his later years, he never lost the ability to make people feel seen, heard, valued, and loved.
Louis is survived by his wife, Rosemarie; his children: Cindy (Dan Butts) Barrington, RI, Paul (Colleen) NYC, and Jim (Kristen Williams) Denver, CO; his daughters-in-law: Susan Scibetta, Woodstock VT and Liz Scibetta, Birmingham AL; his 11 cherished grandchildren: Maddy Butts (Karl Semancik), Danielle Butts (Jack McCartney), Alex Storaci (Hunter Storaci), Andie Scibetta (fiance Ryan McDonnell), Sam Scibetta, Lucas Scibetta, Annie Scibetta, Catherine Scibetta, Alijah Webb, Caleb Webb, and Grace Scibetta; his great-grandchild: Stevie Storaci; and his brother: Mario Scibetta (Ellie) Erie, PA. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Tom.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vermont Institute of Natural Science, VINS Nature Center, P.O. Box 1281, Quechee, VT 05059 or Upper Valley Haven, White River Junction, VT 05001 in his honor and memory.
