Tunbridge, VT – Lorriane M. Withington, 97, died peacefully Friday morning, January 5, 2024, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT. She was born January 28, 1926, in Royalton, VT, the second daughter of ten children to Ralph E. and Marjorie G. (Rogers) Clark.
Lorraine graduated from South Royalton High School and shortly after married Paul C. Russell in 1947. They made their home in Tunbridge on Russell Road. Lorraine worked as a Hot Lunch Agent in Tunbridge Elementary School and was very active at the South Tunbridge Methodist Church where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Later she attended and graduated from NH Vocational Technical College in Claremont, NH receiving her nursing certificate. For seventeen years she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mary Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH. Following the hospital, Lorraine worked for four years out of the Woodstock Office of the Visiting Nurse Association and later as a Private Duty Nurse in the local area.
On June 24, 1990, Lorraine was married to Raymond L. Withington. Ray died November 29, 2014. Throughout her life Lorraine always stayed busy. She was a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary in White River Jct., VT, the Eagles – Aires in Lebanon, NH, a devoted member of the South Tunbridge Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2571 in White River Jct., a member of the West Randolph and National Grange, and a stockholder in the Tunbridge Fair where she served in the Dodge Gilman Building for many years.
She will be remembered for her great baking and her love of bowling, knitting and crocheting. From her own words, she said "most of all I love spending time with my grandkids!"
She was predeceased by her two husbands, her brothers, Leonard W., Morris L. and Lester W. Clark, her sister, Maydene J. Lamson, and her two sons, Scott H. Russell and Mark A. Russell.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Paul "Buck" Russell and his wife, Emily of Tunbridge, VT, Logan Russell and her husband, Nick of South Royalton, VT, Brooke Dimmick and her husband, Bobby of Randolph, VT, seven great granddaughters, daughter-in-law, Lynne Russell and Lynne's daughter and Lorraine's next door neighbors, Danielle Castro and her husband, Sean as well as their children, Jordan, Aaliyah, and Kaylee Castro, five brothers, Arnold R. Clark of North Tunbridge, VT, Theodore E. Clark of Corinth, VT, Robert Clark of White River Jct., VT, Richard V. Clark of North Carolina, and Freeman E. Clark of Athol, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7PM, Friday evening, January 19th, at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A graveside committal service will be held at a later date in the Branchview Cemetery in South Royalton, VT.
