White River Jct., VT – Lois J. Porter, 90, died Sunday February 14, 2010, at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., VT .
Mrs. Porter was born October 4, 1919 in Hartford, VT, the daughter of Elmer and Ariel (Algier) Jones. She was raised by Roxie Sargent from the age of 8 until she graduated from Hartford High School class of 1938. She was married to Nelson "John" Porter October 31, 1937. In 1959 they moved to Hartland Four Corners were she lived until she was no longer able to care for the property. She was Postmaster in Hartland Four Corners retiring after 18 years.Mrs. Porter was a member of the North American Postmasters of the United States.
Mrs. Porter enjoyed reading to children and for her own pleasure, spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.Mrs. Porter is predeceased by her husband, Nelson "John" Porter; a daughter, Jean Dore; two sons, David Porter and Gary Porter.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her son Peter Porter and his wife Donna, of White River Jct.; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lyndall Jerome of Lebanon, NH, Deloris Tucker of Jacksonville, FL, Lorraine Cooper of Alabama, Brenda Wright and Gail Ashley both of Florida.
Friends may call Thursday February 18 at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday at the First Universalist Society at Hartland Four Corners, Hartland, VT.
