Quechee, VT - Lois (Carey) Brockway, 80. died Monday, August 20, 2012, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a long and fiercely fought battle with cancer.
A native of Massachusetts, Lois was born in Boston on March 19, 1932, Boston, MA the daughter on Norman and Carolyn (Carrie) Carey . She attended elementary and junior high in Watertown and graduated from Medford High School. Lois attended Boston University, and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she gained employment with Lewis Shephard where she met her husband Richard Brockway. On August 24, 1957, they married at the United Methodist church in Watertown, MA where she had spent time singing in the church choir. They celebrated 51 years of marriage and had two children. Lois earned her pre-school teaching certificate and taught nursery school while her children attended school and then returned to the business world, working for Compten/NCR where she worked until her retirement . Lois and her husband retired to Vermont . Here she was active member of the United Methodist Church in White River Jct., peeling many potatoes and baking pies for the church suppers and volunteering at the Second Hand Rose thrift shop. Lois loved to sew, knit and crochet, but was the happiest when surrounded by her family and close friends. She leaves behind her daughter Joyce Mountain, her husband Charles and their children Danielle and Matthew of Waltham, MA, and her son Richard M. Brockway, his wife Lori, and their children Justin, Jared and Jake of Framingham, MA. She also leaves behind her sister –in law Irene Brockway, her Carey nieces and Brockway nephews, and many friends.
