Hartford, VT – Linda Joyce Winget, 81, died Friday evening, September 1, 2023, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. She was born August 8, 1942, in Quincy, MA the daughter of Earle and Lois (Ingalls) Winget. She grew up in Hartford, VT and graduated from Hartford High School in 1960.

Following graduation she began her career as a bookkeeper, first at Watson & West Insurance Co. and then for a time at A.B. Gile investment company in Lebanon, NH. While balancing her work with Avon Beauty, she spent some time working at Moulton Construction before she was later hired by the Hanover, NH School District, where she worked for several years until she and her friend, Douglas Tidd, purchased "The Jug Store", a deli and VT State Liquor Outlet in Norwich, VT. They owned and operated it until Doug's passing when Linda took solo ownership. She ran the store for the next several years until she retired when she turned 65. Linda was a hard worker, but when she could, she enjoyed traveling, attending country music concerts with her sister, Ellen, gambling and playing bingo. She made many memories with her friends from the Mascoma Bank Passport Club traveling to Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Linda made annual trips to the casino in Oxford, Maine, and bus trips to Foxwoods in Connecticut.

Linda was predeceased by her friend, Douglas Tidd, her parents, and a sister, Diane Matoon. She is survived by her sister, Ellen M. Swasey, and her husband, Carl, of White River Jct., VT, and her cousins, Peter Martin, Paul Martin, Mary Ann Hall, and Ilene Elliot, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A life celebration and reception will be held at 12pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Bugbee Senior Center in White River. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bugbee Senior Center, 262 North Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05001.
