Linda M. Moyer, 70, of Hartland died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT. She was born September 5, 1943 in Reading, PA the daughter of Paul J. and Erma A. (Frey) Potteiger.
Linda was raised in Temple, PA, graduating from Muhlenberg Township High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1965 from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. She attended Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA where she met Robert Moyer, her husband of 48 years. They were married September 3, 1966.
Linda earned her diploma in the Montessori Method of Education in 1977 from the St. Nicholas Training Centre in London, England, UK. She taught for eight years at the Center Square Montessori School in Center Square, PA. In addition to her Montessori experience, Linda worked as a teacher's aide at Hoffman Homes in Littlestown, PA, a residential psychiatric treatment center for emotionally and behaviorally troubled youth. She served for 16 years as a para educator at the Hartland Elementary School. She was committed to enabling children and youth discover the enriching learning experiences and personal growth that can be achieved through education.
Linda was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Hartland, where her husband served as pastor. She sang in the church choir, served on the Music/Worship Committee, and helped to coordinate the congregation's community food shelf.
She was an Associate Member of the Iona Community, based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The Iona Community is a global Christian ecumenical movement working for justice, peace, the integrity of the environment, and reconciliation. Both she and her husband, Robert have participated in the Community's programs at the Abbey Centre located on the island of Iona.
Linda served on the first committee which helped to establish Hartland Community Connections. She was a member on the Board of Hartland Community Arts, performed in several HCA-sponsored musical productions, and sang with the Hartland Community Chorus.
Linda blessed her family and friends with her love, nurture and kindness. She was a skilled cook and baker. She was a gifted pianist and taught beginner-level piano to children in the Hartland community.
Linda is survived by her husband, Robert of Hartland; two sons, Peter Moyer of Pittsburgh, PA; Paul Moyer and his wife Christine Green; two grandchildren, Bridget and Ethan Moyer, all of Brockport, NY; two brothers, P. Larry Potteiger of Lewes, DE; John Potteiger and his wife, Nancy of Umatilla, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Linda's life will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, UCC, 10 Station Road in Hartland with the Rev. Lucia Jackson, the Rev. Paul Sawyer and the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg officiating. A time for conversation and refreshment will follow in the church fellowship hall.
