WINDSOR, VT
Leon W. Hunt, 84, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away suddenly Monday, July 19 at his home in Windsor.
He was born August 6, 1925 in Norwich, VT the son of Leslie M. and Florence (Higgins) Hunt. He received his schooling in Cornish and attended Windsor High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1946 he resided in Texas, until moving to Vermont in 1954. He married Jean Hammond on December 3, 1955 in Brownsville, VT. They were later divorced. He was employed at Pippin Construction in Windsor for several years, and most recently worked for Sears Roebuck as an appliance repairman until his retirement in 1982.
Leon was a member of the American Legion Post #25 in Windsor and the VFW in Springfield. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed fishing with his longtime friend Bob Vitagliano of Windsor. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and for the past eight years he enjoyed selling corn at the McClellan Farm stand in Windsor.
He was predeceased by one sister, Helen and three brothers, Maurice, Chet and Harry.
Survivors include, one daughter, Bonnie Martaniuk and her husband, John of Windsor, three sons, Douglas Hunt and his wife, Patti of Bristol, Rhode Island, Tim Hunt and his wife, Judy of Windsor, and David Hunt and his wife Dorothy, of Diboll, Texas, two sisters, Ruth Hall of Windsor, and Irene Endersbee of Fort Myers, Florida, six grandchildren, Matt, Shawn, Travis, Shelby, Christopher and Lisa five great grandchildren, Ryan, Olivia, Emily, Madison and Rachel, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday morning, July 23 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM; the funeral service will begin at 11:00 with the Rev. Ken White, Pastor of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, officiating. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Martaniuk residence on Paradise Drive in Windsor.
