WINDSOR, VT
Leon W. Goad, 79, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 4 at his home in Windsor.
He was born March 21, 1934 in Graniteville, VT the son of Leon and Ila Goad. He attended schools in Connecticut and moved to Windsor as a young man where he also attended school. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Lois Hunt in White River Jct., VT on May 26, 1956. He was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for thirty five years until the plant closed in 1987. He later was employed at Timken Aerospace in Lebanon for ten years until his retirement in 1997. Following his retirement he returned to Timken part time for eleven years.
Mr. Goad was a charter member of the VFW in Windsor, a member and trustee of the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665 and a member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, picking mushrooms and gingsengs and was fond of cooking. He was an avid poker player. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Alton Goad, Arnold Goad and Carlton Goad.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty seven years, Lois H. Goad of Windsor, three sons, Walter L. Goad and his wife, Dayle of Georgia, VT, Scott W. Goad of Windsor and Todd M. Goad of Windsor, one daughter, Pamela J. Eastman and her husband, Gordon of Reading, VT, seven grandchildren, Ashley Eastman, Alex Eastman, Laura Eastman, Misty Boutin, Thia Phelps, Alexa Goad and Logan Goad, six great grandchildren, Kayla Nester, Austin Gauld, Payton Boutin, Ella Phelps, Ethan Eastman and Audrey Eastman, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, June 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
At Leon's request a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 13 beginning at Noon at the home of Gordon and Pamela Eastman in Reading, VT.
