Sharon Vermont – Lena Melloni Tatro, ninety six, died Thursday night, November 13 2014 at Lebanon Center Genesis Eldercare Facility in Lebanon New Hampshire.
Born to Italian immigrants Pasqualina (Lena) Melloni was born in Springfield Mass in 1918 and was the daughter of Gaetano Melloni and Maria Paderzoni. She was one of eight children and her name Pasqualina means "child of Easter" and she was named that because she was born on Easter Sunday March 31st. She attended schools in Agawam Mass. At a young age she went to work at General Fiberbox in West Springfield Mass and then later for Hamilton Standard Company in Windsor Locks Conn where she worked in the cafeteria until her retirement in 1980. She moved to Sharon Vermont in 1994 where she lived with her son and daughter in law.
Lena was a great lover of children especially babies and whenever a child came to the house she would rather play and entertain them than socialize with the adults. She was the typical jolly Grandmother who would hug and squeeze her Grandchildren and kiss them all over their face. She loved to be out in the barn with the horses and had a special cat that would follow her all over the yard as well as a pet chicken named Ethel.
Lena was the last of a wonderful family of eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Dennis Tatro and his wife Laura of Sharon Vermont, a daughter Marlene Downing and her husband Robert of Warren Mass, five grandchildren, six step grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday November 21 2014 from 6pm to 8pm at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction and the funeral service will be Saturday November 22, 2014 beginning at Noon time also at the funeral home.
