Lena May Allen, 76, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away Wednesday evening, October 1 at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow, VT.
She was born March 12, 1938 in Chester, VT the youngest daughter of six children of Floyd and Lottie (Converse) Cook. She was raised and received her schooling in Chester. She married Palmer Augustus Allen in Andover, VT on June 10, 1955. They resided in Reading all their married lives. Mrs. Allen was employed as a chambermaid for a local Inn for a short while. She also cleaned homes for several Reading residents. She was fond of walking, snowmobiling, square dancing, gardening and enjoyed her many pets. Lena was a loving mother of five children and was also proud to have been a foster mother to many children. Mr. Allen passed away on December 6, 1997. She was also predeceased by one son, Harry Allen in 1959, and by two brothers, Allen Cook and Lloyd Cook, and one sister, Ellen Wright.
Survivors include, two daughters, Dorothy Allen and her husband Charles and Janet Allen, two sons, Floyd Allen and Dennis Allen and his wife Susan, all of Reading, VT, one brother, Clarence Cook of Gassett, VT, one sister Blanche Shepard of Springfield, VT, six grandchildren, Christopher Voisine, Shane Voisine, Palmer Allen, Matt Voisine, Rochelle Voisine and Kate Cyr Allen, one great grandson, Brodie Mathew Allen, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, October 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
At her request a graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 7 at 1:00 PM in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor. The Rev. William Sheldon will officiate.
