Windsor, Vermont – Leland E. Blackington, 64, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., VT after a long illness.
He was born August 14, 1956 in Windsor, VT the son of Eugene and Elinor (Edson) Blackington. Leland grew up in Brownsville, VT, graduated from Windsor High School Class of 1975 and then served in the US Air Force for four years.
Following his honorable discharge, he drifted around for a time before taking a job at Sturm Ruger in Newport where he worked for many years. He lived a large portion of his life in the Newport – Claremont area until his health deteriorated, and he moved to White River Jct., VT. For the past year he has resided in White River Jct., VT.
Leland was a kind and free spirit. His illness took much away from him and forced him to give up his two biggest hobbies, that of hunting and fishing. Leland was devastated by the loss of his two brothers, Brian and Robert, with whom he was extremely close.
He was predeceased by his parents, his three brothers, Brian, Robert and Alan Blackington as well as a sister, Betty Cross.
Leland is survived by three sisters, Karen Hulburt of Windsor, VT, Barbara Hall of Leland, NC and Dale Beaulieu of Middlebury, VT and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no services at this time. A private celebration will be held at a later date.
