Obituary

West Hartford, VT – Lawrence A. Davis, 84, died peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday evening April 6, 2015 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT. He was born August 10, 1930 in Windsor a son of Floyd A. and Cecyl (Bean) Davis. Larry spent his youth in Windsor graduating from Windsor High School in 1949. He married the love of his life, Mary White on January 11, 1952 in Hartland where they lived for many years, raising their family. In 1995 they moved to West Hartford, VT where they have resided for the past twenty years. Larry and his good friend, Bill Campbell ran Davis & Campbell Garage in Hartland for twenty years. Later he worked as a mechanic for the Town of Hartland and then at Murphy Equipment in Hartford which later became New England Equipment. He finished out his long and successful career at Blaktop and TwinState Sand and Gravel in West Lebanon, NH. Larry loved working on anything mechanical and was always glad to lend a hand to any family or friend. He was an avid stock car driver. He drove car 404 racing at the Claremont Speedway and throughout New England. After he stopped racing he was active with his son's team and later his grandson's team.

Larry's greatest joy was spending time with his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. His family always came first. He was known for his huge, strong but gentle and caring hands. He will be remembered for his incredible strength, warm and compassionate heart, kind and generous nature and as a special friend to all.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Davis Bunnell, a granddaughter Lesley Ring and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Norman Davis.

He leaves his loving wife of sixty three years, Mary, of West Hartford; three sons Lawrence M. Davis and wife Debbie of Hartland, David A. Davis and wife Jennie of White River Jct. and William W. Davis and wife Karen of Windsor; four daughters Sharon Davis and her partner Stephen Powers of Jefferson, NH, Susan Jenks and husband Kirk of Windsor, Sara Lyman and husband Tom of West Hartford and Elizabeth Dreher and husband Ralph of Kennett Square, PA; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Sunday April 12th from 3-5PM. A memorial service will be held Monday April 13th at 11AM at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Hartland Four Corners.
