Laurence F. Chase
Laurence F. Chase, 100, died Tuesday September 8, 2015 at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, NH.
He was born June 10, 1915 in Woburn, MA a son of Elmer and Pearl L. Chase. He grew up in and graduated from high school in Somerville, MA. He furthered his education at Franklin Union in Boston and at the Lowell Technological Institute of Cambridge, MA. He moved to White River Jct., in 1939 to work at Twin State Electrical Supply where he retired after 43 years of service as Division Vice President and General Manager. During World War II he served in the North Atlantic Division of the Air Transport Command of the US Army Air Force from 1942-46 being honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. He was married to Philomena Regione May 14, 1956 in White River Jct., VT.
Mr. Chase actively served his community throughout his life through both civic and political service. He served in the Vermont House of Representatives for six years and was appointed by Governor Emerson to serve as a member of the State Veteran's Board. Locally in the Town of Hartford he served on the Board of Civil Authority, Planning Commission, the Hartford Economic Development Task Force and Justice of the Peace. He was also a member and Past President of the Vermont Electrical Assn., the White River Rotary Club from whom he received a Paul Harris Fellow and White River Lions where he served as King Lion. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2571 in White River Jct., serving as Post Commander and State VFW Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 26, Hartford Lodge 1541 B.P.O.Elks, United Brethren Lodge F&AM 21, Cairo Temple, AAONMS. Former Vice President of the Connecticut River Watershed Council and a member of Vermont Society of Professional Engineers and the White River Area Housing Development Corp. He served on the Board and was Past President of the White River Council on Aging and a Director of the Green Mountain Industrial Development Corp. He served on the Regional Board of SEVCA and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Connecticut River Advisory Council on Bridges.
He was predeceased by his first wife Anna Chase in 1955 and later by his wife of 52 years, Philomena, in 2011.
He leaves a daughter, Cheryl Chase of Cornish, NH; a sister, Barbara Shalline of Cape Cod, MA; two grandchildren, Nicole Connolly and Jason Ranney; four great grandchildren, Sierra Connolly, Drew Connolly, Jake Ranney and Max Ranney and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT from 10-11 AM on Saturday September 12th. A funeral service will be held at 11AM at the funeral home with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
