WINDSOR, VT
Kenneth G. "Smitty" Smith, 82, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 18, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
He was born April 17, 1933 in Thetford, VT the son of Daniel and Sylvia (Waterman) Smith. He was raised in Norwich on Bradley Hill. He received his early schooling in Norwich and graduated from Hanover High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Vermont. He was employed at Lamphere Tractor Service in White River Jct. for several years and later worked as a mechanic at the original Gateway Motors. He also was employed at Charlie Kelton's in White River and for Ray Daniels Transportation in Lebanon, NH. He most recently drove truck for Mowers's News Service for thirty three years until his retirement in 1996. "Smitty" was fond of working on his vehicles, and enjoyed dancing and country music. He especially enjoyed eating at the Windsor Pizza Chef. He was a member of the VFW in White River Jct.
He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Carl Smith.
Survivors include his loving companion of forty three years, Coralyn Bushor of Windsor, three sons, Kenneth Smith of Lebanon, NH, James "Jim" Smith of Boston, MA and Thomas "Tom" Smith of Enfield, NH, two daughters, Susan Smith-Franklin and her husband, Thomas Franklin of Quechee, VT and Jean Smith of Lebanon, NH, two brothers, Daniel Smith, Jr. of Hartford, VT and Frederick Smith of Norwich, VT, one sister, Elizabeth Langlois of Norwich, VT, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
At his request a celebration of "Smitty's" life will be held on Sunday, August 23 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Windsor Pizza Chef on Main Street in Windsor. Committal services with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with the arrangements.
