HARTLAND, VT
Kenneth George Lowery, 83, a resident of Hartland passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH surrounded by loved ones.
He was born June 25, 1928 in East Barre, VT the son of Raymond and Eva (Garneau) Lowery. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1946. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Wauneta Persons in Cornish, NH on December 19, 1953. Major Lowery retired from the US Army after a twenty three year career in active duty. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve for another fifteen years. Following his honorable discharge he was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor as a department foreman for forty years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor where he was a Fourth Degree member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Father Fontaine Council. He was also a member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25, the VFW Post #2571 in White River Jct., and a life member of the DAV. He served as Past Commander of the Windsor National Guard and was a staff member of the Vermont Battalion and Brigade in Burlington.
His loving wife, Wauneta passed away on March 15, 2012. He was also predeceased by his parents, one daughter, Caroline Hull, three grandchildren, Kenneth Hull, Jeremiah Hull and Theresa Hull, and by two brothers, William Lowery and Robert Lowery.
Survivors include, three daughters, Bonnie Holbrook and her husband Jim Holbrook of Thetford Center, VT, Yvonne Rice and her husband Ronnie Rice of Hartland, and Donna Lowery and her friend Paul Trusty of Hartland, seven grandchildren, Dominique (Holbrook) Walton and her husband, Shane Walton; Jason and Justin Rice; Jonathan and Jessica Atwood; Jazmin and James Beam; two great grandsons, Zadian Walton and Izic Richardson; one sister, Erlene Gentry of Quinton, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Lowery's request there will be no visiting hours.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. and Mrs. Lowery will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 20 at 11:00 AM the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Raphael Nyabenda, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Committal services with military honors for Mr. Lowery will be held in the spring in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder, VT.
