Obituary

Wilder, Vermont- Kendall C. "Gil" Gilbert Jr., 87, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder, VT.
He was born February 15, 1927 in Woodstock, VT the son of Kendall and Margaret (Hutchins) Gilbert. In 1941 they moved to the Boston area where he graduated from Mechanical Arts High School. Kendall went on to serve his country in US Army serving over seas in Korea. He moved back to the Upper Valley in 1957. Upon his return he went to work for Cross Company in White River Junction. He was married to Helen May Scruton in Wilder, where they have lived ever since. After retiring from Cross Co. he went to work for Catamount Brewery in White River Junction and later to the Valley News where he worked until his health kept him from working.
Gil was a Life Member of Both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2571 and the American Legion Post #26 of White River Junction. He truly enjoyed working, fishing and camping. He was a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Bruins. But his greatest of passions was his family especially his grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Helen and a brother Harold R. Gilbert.
Gil is survived by three daughters Penny Gilbert of Wilder, VT,
Kathy Betters of Hartford, VT and Peggy Smith of Newport, NH; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister Ruth Thibodeau of Wilder.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 24 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction from 3-5PM. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3PM at the funeral home.
