Katherine "Kay" H.A. Daignault, 82, died of natural causes in Windsor, Vermont on Monday evening, March 29, 2010.
Born on December 27, 1927 in Windsor, Vermont, Kay lived in Windsor and loved the community her entire life. Kay was the daughter of Flora Kavanagh Smith of Windsor, and Harold Arthur Smith of Richmond, Quebec, Canada, she had five brothers and sisters, all born in Windsor. Kay wed John A. Daignault in Windsor, Vermont, on December 27, 1945, and they were married for over 60 years until his passing in 2006. Kay and John had two children, whom they raised in Windsor.
The center of Kay's life was her husband, children, and family, but she also devoted herself to the community. Kay worked for many years with her husband as the assistant treasurer of St. Francis of Assisi Parish Credit Union, which is now known as the Covered Bridge Credit Union in Windsor. She then assisted her husband in the management of his real estate office, JAD Realty of Windsor. Kay volunteered for many years as an instructor for the Threshold Decision Program at the Vermont State Prison in Windsor. In addition, Kay was a singer for many years in the Sing-A-Long Program at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor. Kay was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Windsor her entire adult life.
Kay was predeceased by her husband John, three sisters, Sylvia Gates, Patricia Abbott, and Pauline (Bridge) Wirsanik, and by her brother Ronald Smith.
Survivors include her son Dr. John Daignault of Miami Beach, FL, her daughter Lisa (Daignault)Perera and her husband John, of Quechee, VT, her brother Raymond Smith and his wife Dora of Windsor, VT, her grandchildren Genesia Christensen and her husband Eric of Gloucester, MA, Nathan Carpenter of New Orleans, LA, Jay Daignault of Denver, CO, and Amy Daignault of Boulder, CO. In addition, Kay immensely enjoyed the newest additions to her family, her great grandchildren Madelyn, Aiden, and Owen Christensen, all of Gloucester, MA.
A prayer service will be held at the Knight Funeral Home, in Windsor, Vermont on Saturday April 10, at 11 AM, with the Rev. Paul N. Belhumeur, M.S., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, Winston L.
