Weathersfield, Vermont - Katherine R. Markwell, 84, died peacefully early Thursday morning, January 23, at her home with her loving husband by her side.  She was born February 5, 1935 in Danby, Vermont the daughter of George and Elsie (Rice) Haley.  She attended High School in Ludlow, Vermont and worked at the local movie theater selling popcorn.  At a local dance hall she met Gordon D. Markwell.  They were married a short time later in Springfield, VT on February 14, 1953.  Gordon was in the service so they lived where he was stationed until they returned to Vermont and settled in Weathersfield.   Along with raising their four children, Katherine worked for a time as a chamber maid at Kedron Valley Inn in South Woodstock, VT.

Katherine enjoyed snowmobiling with her husband and playing bingo with her close friends.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Haley.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Gordon D. Markwell of Weathersfield, VT, sons, Bruce Markwell of Polly's Island, SC, Randy Markwell of Weathersfield, VT, Gregory D Markwell of North Pomfret, VT, daughter Melody Bishop of Weathersfield, VT, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
