Katherine B. "Kitty" Gilbert, 87, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday afternoon, November 14, at her home in Windsor surrounded by her family.
She was born January 2, 1924 in East Barnet, VT the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Wilson) Blake. She received her schooling in Barnet and St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1942. She married Campbell L. Gilbert in Windsor on June 29, 1946. She was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for twenty eight years until her retirement in 1986. She was a longtime active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, where she was a member of the church choir, a forty five year member of the Catholic Daughters, and volunteered at the Windsor Food Shelf located at the church. She also volunteered at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital gift shop for several years, and delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program in Windsor. She was well known for, and was proud of, to have volunteered for various local charitable organizations. She received great pleasure in doing for others. She enjoyed vacationing in York Beach, Maine with her family and friends. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan for many years and enjoyed attending games at Fenway Park. She loved animals and enjoyed bird watching. Kitty was fond of spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mr. Gilbert passed away on December 12, 1991. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Ralph Blake, Paul Blake and Phillip Blake.
Survivors include three sons, Frederick Gilbert of Windsor, James Gilbert and his wife, Christine of Brookfield, VT and Stephen Gilbert and his wife, Cheryl of West Hartford, VT, five grandchildren, Jessica Carpenter of South Royalton, VT, Alexander Gilbert of Brookfield, VT, Angela Taylor of Shelburne Falls, MA, Corey Gilbert of Salem, NH and Katie Gilbert of West Hartford, VT, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, November 17 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Raymond Vaillancourt, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Committal services will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow back at the church hall.
