Katherine C. "Kay" Wilbur
West Hartford, VT - Katherine C. "Kay" Wilbur, 73, died at home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday August 8th.
Kay was born February 24, 1937 a daughter of Allen and Jessie (LaFoe) Clark in Haverhill, NH. Her family moved to Wilder as a teenager and she graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1955. After school she began working as an operator at New England Telephone in White River Jct. She was married to Stanton Wilbur September 21, 1957 in Wilder and they have spent the last fifty plus years devoted to one another. The Wilbur's moved to West Hartford in 1961 and have lived there since.
Kay was very active in local, town and school affairs. Her knowledge and involvement led to her being "On the Air" with Charlie Kelton and Ray Reed at WNHV many times. She was elected several terms to the Hartford School Board serving a total of nine years. On the board she was the liaison member with the Board of Selectman, Clerk of the Board for four years, Voting Delegate to Annual Vermont School Board Association and was proud to have always taken into consideration the students, teachers and taxpayers. She was a trustee of the West Hartford Library, the West Hartford Cemetery Association and the West Hartford Church, a member of the West Hartford Community Group, and served in several capacities at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ including Deacon of the Women's Fellowship. She also served at the Bugbee Senior Center in White River Jct., on local, regional and state PTA groups and was a member and past president of the Hartford Alumni Association.
In addition to her community activities Kay enjoyed her duties as representative for Avon and Park Lane and hosting Tupperware and B-Line parties. She also enjoyed camping when camping meant camping out and had many wonderful experiences with friends in Wolfeboro especially on Cabbage Island. She enjoyed her travels for both leisure and with the PTA & Park Lane to places such as Tacoma, Milwaukee, Ohio, New York City, New Jersey and Maine.
Above all else she loved being involved with her children and grandchildren. She attended all of their plays, sporting events and other activities and was especially honored to have given out High School Diplomas the year her daughter graduated.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Howard, Fred, Ira and Harry Clark.
She is survived by her husband of West Hartford; her children James Wilbur of Tacoma, WA, Donna Britch of South Royalton, David Wilbur of White River Jct., and Les Wilbur and wife Deb of Plainfield, NH.; six grandchildren Travis and his wife Christina, Robert, Ryan and wife Aryel, Craig, Kayla and Katie; three great grandchildren Thomas, Alex and Addison as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Friday from 1-3 and 6-8. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1PM at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ.
