IN LOVING MEMORY OF
June D.
Laskey
September 27, 1929 – March 29, 2020
White River Junction, VT – June D. Laskey, 90, died March 29, 2020 at Valley Terrace Assisted Living in White River Junction, VT. Although June had been unable to have visitors recently due to the pandemic and Valley Terrace's need to keep their residents safe, two of her five children were allowed to be with her at the time of her passing.
She was born September 27, 1929 in Hartford, VT a daughter of Earl and Eva (Kaveny) Doubleday. June graduated from Hartford
High School in 1947 before starting work as an operator at New England Telephone. She was married to Paul Laskey on July 7, 1951 at St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction, VT. June and Paul lived in South Carolina after they were married while Paul was serving in the U.S. Navy.
Once Paul was discharged from the Navy, they lived in White River Junction and eventually moved to Arlington, VT where their family continued to grow. June's husband Paul died suddenly in 1961, as the result of a hunting accident, leaving June to raise her five children as a single parent. She was a stay at home Mom until her youngest child started school. At that time June began working in the library at the school and then as a teacher's aide for several years. In the early 70's she began her career with the U.S. Post Office. She worked at Post Offices in Arlington, Bennington, and Manchester until her retirement in 1992.
After retiring from the Post Office June spent winters in the south, eventually buying a home in Frostproof, FL where she lived year-round for several years. In 2011 she returned to the northeast and lived at Quail Hollow in Lebanon, NH until moving to Valley Terrace.
June was a dedicated and loving mother. She always put the needs of her children first. It was definitely not easy being a single parent, but she worked hard at it and was truly loved by her five children. She taught them that life was not always fair but that it was important to enjoy it and live it with lots of love and laughter.
June loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, cribbage, bingo and pretty much any type of game that involved time with other people. She was fortunate to have many good friends throughout her life. June also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church while living in White River and while in Arlington was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Church.
June was predeceased by her husband Paul, her parents Eva and Earl, her sister Gloria, her brother Maurice, and her granddaughter, Ashley.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren; Theresa, and her children Nichole Griffin and William Schaaf III, Cheryl and her son Brent Miller, David and his wife Diane and his children Paul Laskey and Kate-Lynn Gaylord, Denise and her husband Richard and their sons Peter and Michael Spiak, and Christopher and his daughter Katherine Laskey. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
June's family would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful people at Valley Terrace who took such good care of her while she was there. They feel so blessed that she was able to have so many warm, wonderful, loving people to care for her. They will forever be grateful for all of the love and support they received.
