Windsor, VT – Julia J. Waite, 90, died on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT surrounded by her loved ones. She was the youngest child of Joseph and Anna (Melicher) Stefanovich born in Ash Grove, NY on November 25, 1934. She grew up there, attended school in a one room schoolhouse and continued her education at the Cambridge Central School in Cambridge, NY, graduating high school at the age of 16.

Following her graduation from high school, she began working at ASGROW, a local company at the time, deeply rooted in the Cambridge, NY community, known for seed packaging and preservation.

Each summer from 1951 until 1957 she pitched for a softball league team. She was talented, enjoyed playing (and winning), and frequented the sports pages of the local newspapers.

On October 5, 1957, she married William D. Waite at St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge, NY. After many moves for his career, they settled in Windsor, Vermont—a place Julia loved and chose as their forever home. Once her two children were in school, she continued her working career, this time as a pharmacy technician. She first worked at Bussone's Drug Store in Windsor, VT, then Steven's Drug Store in Claremont, NH, and later at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Pharmacy for almost 20 years until her retirement at the age of 69.

Throughout her time in Windsor, she was an active parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She adopted the Red Sox as her team and loved watching the games from her living room with her beloved cats. Word searches, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy were some of her favorite pastimes, as well as watching her grandchildren's high school sports games.

She was a woman ahead of her time, fiercely independent and willing to battle the elements well into her 80s…armed with her trusty leaf blower, lawn mower, and snow blower.

She is survived by her two children Stephen J. Waite and wife Cheryl of Hartland, VT and Laurel W. Curtis of Windsor; grandchildren William L. Waite (Megan) and Stacie Kerin (Zachary), Stefanie Curtis (Evan Russell) and Katelyn Curtis; great grandchildren: Wyatt and Abram Waite, Caden and Maeve Kerin, and Bailey Russell; her cat Taffy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, three siblings; Stefan Stefanovich, Anna Stefanovich, and Mary Milkiewicz, and son-in-law Mark Curtis.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday June 6, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, followed by a committal service at St. Francis Cemetery.
