Joyce L. Wood

Quechee, VT – Joyce L. Wood, 82, died Monday January 12, 2015 at home in Quechee.

She was born December 22, 1932 in Lebanon, NH a daughter of William and Bertha (Valentine) LaRock. Joyce grew up in Quechee where she lived most of her life. After graduating from Hartford High School was married to Paul Wood in 1953. She worked for a time as a telephone operator and then for over thirty years driving school bus for Hartford Schools.

When she wasn't busy working or raising her six children, Joyce loved raising horses with her husband. They raised Morgan's for many years and later Standardbred Race Horses that they raced throughout New England and New York. Through her love for animals, Joyce opened Woodstock Farm Kennels, which she operated for many years and her daughter has continued to operate.

She was a former active member of the Lippitt Club, the Vermont Morgan Horse Association and the Hartland Riding Club as well as a former 4-H Club leader in Quechee.

Joyce was predeceased by a son Richard Wood, three sisters Shirley Ford, Evelyn Barbour and Winona Lyman as well as a brother James LaRock.

She is survived by her husband Paul of Quechee; four daughters Paula Bugbee and her husband Nelson of Hartland, VT Elizabeth Meade and her husband Brad of West Lebanon, NH, Susan Wood and Catherine Herlihy both of Quechee; a son Ralph Wood of White River Jct.; three grandchildren Amanda Wood, Paul Robert Wood and Jennifer Henderson; three great-grandchildren Colton Wood Addison Henderson and Brody Meade and several nieces and nephews.

A family committal will take place in the spring.
