Hartford, Vermont - Joyce Alice Miller, 86, died Sunday June 13, 2021, at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, NH.
She was born August 10, 1934, in Hanover, NH a daughter of Victor and Pearl (Camp) Gray. Joyce spent her early years in Connecticut before returning to Etna, NH and attending Hanover schools. She graduated from Hanover High School Class of 1952 and worked at College Supply on Main Street in Hanover. Joyce was married to Raymond Miller in Norwich on May 29, 1954. They made their home on Bedell Road in the Jericho District of Hartford where they raised a family of five children and have lived since. In the early 70's Ray and Joyce started a dairy farm with their son George and operated it together for the next forty years. Joyce also worked in the Hartford School Lunch Program for several years after her children were in school.
Joyce was a member of the Camp Family Fraternity of Etna, NH, and the Centerville Social Club in the Jericho District. She was happy to find any excuse for a party including baby or wedding showers, birthdays with the Miller gals and the annual 10 Cent Party each holiday season at the Jericho Community Club. She also enjoyed snowmobiling as a member of the Hurricane Riders and vacationing on wagon train trips with friends. Joyce loved working with animals and spent many hours in the barn doing chores well into her 70's and had several dozen barn cats at any given time.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma Young and her husband, Byron of White River Jct., VT and Sandra Audsley and her husband Douglas of Taftsville, VT; three sons, Chester Miller and his wife, Candace of Norwich, VT, George Miller and his wife Linda of the Jericho District in the Town of Hartford, VT, Douglas Miller and his wife, Julie of Enfield, NH; ten grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren with two more on the way; several nieces and nephews and her best friend since childhood, Margaret Bailey of Thetford Center.
Joyce's family is grateful for the loving care she received while at Wheelock Terrace the last month of her life and to the Bayada staff for the loving care they provided the last week of her life at Wheelock Terrace.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of over sixty years, Raymond, in 2018; twin sister Janet Savage and her husband Albert; sister, Jean Coutermarsh and her husband Walter; as well as a son-in-law, two nieces and a nephew.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Friday July 9 th from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ on Saturday July 10 th at 10 AM with burial following in the Hartford Cemetery.
