Josephine L. Zielenski, 93, passed away, Friday morning, March 27 at the Stoughton House in Windsor, VT. She was born July 13, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Nunzio and Elizabeth (Manzioni) Bruno.
She earned a high school degree from Girls Homemaking School in Brooklyn, where she specialized in sewing. While in school, her father died and being the oldest sibling, Josephine went to work upon graduation in order to support her family. She worked in various clothing factories in Brooklyn and became an accomplished seamstress.
Josephine married M. Albert Zielenski in 1945. They moved with their sons, Albert and Mark from Middletown to Poughkeepsie, NY in 1953. While raising her family she continued to work as a seamstress, and later was employed as a bank teller at Marine Midland. They resided in Poughkeepsie until 1980 when they moved to Vero Beach, Florida. Following the death of her husband in 1997, Mrs. Zielenski moved to Quail Hollow in Hanover, NH and in 2009 moved to Historic Homes of Runnemede, Stoughton House in Windsor, VT. She loved to garden, cook, sew, and was an avid reader. Her greatest joy was in nurturing and teaching her children and later her grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by her son Albert Zielenski in 2013, and by one sister, Teresa Nobile and one brother, Morris Bruno.
Survivors include son, Mark Zielenski and his wife, Debra of Owego, NY, daughter in law, Jill Michaels of South Strafford, VT, five grandchildren, Willow Zielenski, Peter Zielenski, Erich Zielenski, Noah Michaels and Melissa Michaels, two sisters, Lillian Hearl of Rockville, MD and Francis Cameron of Brooklyn, NY, several nieces and nephews.
Committal services will be held Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 am in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY.
