Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Joseph "Maurice" Tardiff, (Gus) 82, of South Main Street, White River Jct., VT passed away Wednesday morning, Spetember 11, 2013 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT. He was born March 16, 1931 in Claremont, NH the son of Joseph Donald Tardiff and Carrie E. (Grace) Tardiff Hill. He attended schools in White River Jct. and has lived most of his life in the White River Jct. area.

In 1954, Maurice joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was stationed in South Korea at the Kusan Army Base as nurse's aide. He was awarded the Korean War Service Metal.

He worked for the Dartmouth Ski Corp in Hanover, NH for four years. He then went to work for Cone Blanchard Machine Shop in Windsor, VT retiring in 1984 with over 36 years of employment.

Maurice was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2571 and a 55 year member of the American Legion Post #26 both in White River Jct., VT. He was also a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church also in White River Jct., VT.

His hobbies included reading, collecting bird figures and listening to all kinds of music from Jazz to Country. He enjoyed his morning walks from White River Jct. to the West Lebanon Plaza and his weekly routine of shopping with his neighbors, Pat and Herbert Casilini. Most of all, Maurice loved his daily phone conversations with his beloved sister. Maurice will be remembered as a kind and gentle man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and there will be an empty seat at his niece's holiday dinner table.

Maurice was predeceased by his father, Donald Tardiff, mother, Carrie Hill, and sister, Lilian Jarvis. He is survived by his sister, Lucille Archambeault of Lebanon, NH as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held Monday, September 16, from 2:30PM to 3:30PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. Funeral services will be held at 3:30PM immediately following calling hours. Burial will take place in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., VT with full military honors.
