Obituary

Woodstock, VT – John E. Wedda, 76, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT after a short illness. John was born on July 19, 1949, in Webster, MA. His childhood and early adulthood were rooted in Webster too, on a block with many family members and a close community. He and Karen connected right away when they met at a party, but they didn't start dating until years later and he proposed almost immediately. They married on August 28, 1981, and he became dad to her two daughters Torri and Sammi. They moved to Woodstock just a few years later so Karen could help her parents.

At times opinionated and stubborn, John was also extremely devoted, caring, and enjoyed a good joke. He continually found ways that he could make Karen's life easier and viewed it as his job to care for her. He enjoyed fishing as much as he could at Dewey's …bass in the warmer months of the year and pike in the winter through a hole in the ice. Each summer he looked forward to cribbage tournaments, Bud Light in hand, with Torri and Matt at their camp.

He is survived by his wife Karen Rae Wedda of Woodstock; daughter Torri Nelson and husband Matt of Enfield, NH; three siblings Sheila Bronczyk and husband Richard of Webster, MA, Rick Wedda and wife Gery of Dudley, MA, and Cindy Daniels and husband Bill of Webster; three grandchildren Joseph, Ben, and Troy; Sun Conure (parrot) Ozzy; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister Joann Prue and one daughter Sammi Goes.

Services will be private and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to the Thompson Senior Center, 99 Senior Lane, Woodstock, VT 05091.

A Fisherman's Legacy

He cast his line where waters gleam,

And taught us love in every stream.

In laughter, games, and stories told,

He left us treasures more than gold.

Though waves us grief may ebb and flow,

His spirits with us, this I know.

A cribbage hand, a fishing pole,

He lives forever in our soul.
