IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Andersen
Thorp, Iv
April 7, 1959 – December 19, 2023
John Andersen Thorp, IV (Jay), 64, passed away on December 19, 2023, at the Jack Byrne Center with his family by his side.
Jay was born in Hudson, NY on April 7, 1959, to John Andersen Thorp, III and Margaret (Sullivan) Thorp. His family settled permanently in Vermont shortly afterwards. Jay was a Thetford Academy graduate, worked for Sargent Artesian Wells, A&W Well Drilling, the Town of Norwich and Northwoods Excavation.
Jay was an interesting man with many talents. He was quiet, private, serious and just a tad stubborn, but was also funny and witty. He worked hard to provide for his family. He was an avid hunter and passionate about fishing, as well as an all season outdoorsman. Jay enjoyed boating, stone masonry, cutting, splitting and stacking his firewood. Jay also enjoyed woodworking, skeet shooting, and the long time tradition of going to the Maine hunting camp with friends and family.
In his private way Jay had some skills that only a few knew about like being a damn good skier and winning a Vermont State Championship title in wrestling. Jay also had a good ear for music and some great moves on the dance floor.
Jay was very much a family man and would often share his children and grandchildren's accomplishments.
Jay is survived by his son John Piper and wife Rachel; daughter Kiersten Harlow and husband Shawn; grandchildren Alice, Tyler, Wyatt, and Reed; sister Andersen, and brother Eric.
Jay was predeceased by his parents.
At Jay's request there will be no public service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
