John E. Rooney

Brownsville, VT – John E. Rooney, formerly of Fort Myers, FL, died at his home on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the age of 70. John was born in New York, NY to June and John Rooney and grew up in Manhattan. His career with UPS spanned more than three decades, mostly delivering on the island of Manhattan. During that time, he married Joan Goshen and they welcomed two sons, Kevin and James, in New Jersey. They separated but continued to co-parent their boys and remained close throughout his life.

John retired to Florida and met Jackie Richardson in 2015. They cemented their partnership and moved in together. Then in 2024, they left the hot weather and non-stop traffic, for the quietude and cooler weather of Brownsville, VT not far from where Jackie grew up.

John enjoyed building model ships and visiting local restaurants.

He is survived by his longtime partner Jackie Richardson of Brownsville; two sons, Kevin Rooney of Medford, MA and James Rooney of Melbourne, FL; three siblings Raymond Rooney and wife Elizabeth of Arizona, Richard Rooney, Barbara Aquino, both of Florida; his former wife Joan Rooney of Fort Lauderdale, FL other relatives and friends.
