John Moreno died unexpectedly at his home in Hartford on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 62. Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts to Jacqueline (LaCau) and Anthony Moreno, John grew up in Malden, Mass before moving with his family to White River Junction in 1978. John worked for New England Telephone for over 30 years before retiring in 1999. John was very involved in his community, serving on the recreation department board for several years. He was a youth baseball and basketball coach in Hartford for many years and was a fixture at Hartford sporting events throughout the late 80's and early 90's. John served as a guardian ad litem for Windsor County and was an assistant basketball coach at South Royalton School before moving back to the Boston area in 2000. John had recently returned to Hartford to be closer to his family. John enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and attending his eldest grandson's football games. He was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. John cherished three generations of family vacations in York Beach Maine. John was proud of his children and enjoyed spending time with them. John is survived by his ex-wife Kathi Moreno of Hartford, his sister Judy Keenan of Ogunquit, Maine, and his three children and their families: daughters Tricia Pfeiffer and her husband Jason Pfeiffer of Hartford, Terry Toste and her husband Chas Toste of North Providence, RI, and a son Jeff Moreno and his wife Kim Moreno of West Hartford. John had five grandchildren who will all miss their Grampy.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Wednesday December 1st from 5-7PM. A memorial service will follow at 7PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Booster Club, PO Box 4511, White River Jct., VT 05001 to support Hartford Football and Field Hockey.
