Enfield Center, NH – John E. Mann, 79, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, June 4, 2020 surrounded by his three children and longtime companion, in Rancho Mirage, CA after losing his hard fight against leukemia.
He was born June 28, 1940 in Boston, MA the son of William Dewey Mann and Jennie Elizabeth (Palfrey) Mann. John grew up in Newton, MA, graduating from Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury, MA. He spent summers on Cape Cod where he met and fell in love with Bethalyn Hutchins of Worcester, MA. They were married in Worcester, August 18, 1962 and bought a home in Wilder VT to start a family before moving to Hanover, NH where they continued raising their family through high school. They spent summers at their house on Crystal Lake in Enfield and following Bethalyn's death in 1994 John moved to Crystal Lake permanently. He had been spending winters in Rancho Mirage for over thirty years.
Mr. Mann attended Dartmouth College Class of 1962 where he earned a degree in Mathematics and Economics. He began his career in data processing at the Cross Company in Hartford, VT before moving to Computac in Lebanon, NH, where he served as president. John founded Datamann in 1975, specializing in direct mail and periodical distribution software. The company evolved and grew, and now still serves many clients throughout North America.
John was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Quechee Lakes. He particularly enjoyed playing in tournaments with friends and his son. John also liked doing numerous landscaping projects on his properties.
He is survived by a son, William Mann and his wife Elizabeth of Quechee, VT, their sons William and Evan; two daughters, Katharine Reagan and her husband Scott of Canaan, NH, their daughters Jennifer and Amanda and Susanna Kimbel and her husband Brian of Oak Hill, VA, their sons Jared and Josh. He also leaves his longtime companion, Kathleen Chintala.
A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Friday June 19th from 5-7PM. A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 20th at 2PM in the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee. Appropriate social distancing guidelines will be followed at both events.
