John J. Magnus, 83, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction.

He was born April 23, 1929 in the Bronx, NY, the son of Samuel and Elsie (Page) Magnus. He grew up in the Bronx. He enlisted US Navy and served his country during later years of World War II. Upon his return he went to work at St Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx where he worked for many years before moving to the Upper Valley where he went to work for Thermal Dynamics where he worked until his retirement in 1990

John had a nautical spirit, he loved to spend time on the water either a lake or the ocean, on the beach relaxing or fishing from a boat.

John is predeceased by his first wife Margaret (Myer) Magnus; a son John Magnus Jr., and a brother Walter Magnus.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn (White) Magnus of White River Junction, a daughter Carol Magnus of Burlington, VT; three sons Michael Magnus of White River Junction, Carl Magnus of Sharon, VT and Patrick Magnus of Winooski, VT three step children, Renne, Scott, and Amiee a nephew Kevin Murray and numerous other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19 at the North Hartland Community Church in North Hartland, VT at 11AM.
