Thetford Center, VT – John Charles Judd Sr., 83, died Thursday evening at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born October 28, 1931 in Thetford Center, VT the son of Hiriam and Marion ( Russell) Judd. He attended school in Union Village and graduated from Thetford Academy in 1950. John married Louise E. Ketch on October 17, 1952 in Woodland, Maine. He was drafted and served in the US Army during the Korean War. They made their home first in Shelton, CT where they lived from 1954 to 1958. They moved to Norwich, VT in 1958 and lived there until 1989 when John built their retirement home in Thetford Center, VT. They resided there for the rest of their lives. His beloved wife, Louise,died November 19, 2010. During his working career John made his living first as a carpenter and then ended his career as a job superintendent. Most of that time he worked for H.P. Cummings out of Weare, MA and Woodsville, NH.
He was a past member of the Hartford Elks Lodge for over thirty years. He also was a member of the American Legion Lyman Pell Post of Norwich, VT for fifty-two years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and volunteering at the Strafford Senior Citizens Lunch once a month in Strafford, VT. John was a very talented woodworker.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, two sisters, Jackie Maxfield and Charlotte Stone, and a brother Robert Judd Sr.
He is survived by a daughter Deborah Cushman and her companion Larry Densmore of Union village, VT, two sons, Michael Judd and his wife, Lisa of Norwich, VT, John C. Judd Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Norwich, VT, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, adopted son, Terry "Beaver" Amadon of Thetford, VT, two sisters, Jean Thurston of Thetford Center, VT, Judy Lancor of White River Jct., VT, long time friend and companion, Nancy French of Quechee, VT as well as many nieces and nephews
Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, July 21, from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, July 22, at 11AM in the Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT. Burial with full military honors will follow the service.
