Obituary

Wilder, VT – John H. "Jack" Ballou, 71, died at home surrounded by his family Sunday January 24th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born June 3, 1938 in Gaysville, VT a son of Harold and Viola Ballou. Jack grew up and attended school in South Royalton. He served at Fort Dix, NJ with the US Army for a time. He was married to Mabel Spaulding June 25, 1961 in Norwich and has lived in the Upper Valley since and in Wilder for the past forty years. He drove truck for Billings Dairy, Wise Potato Chips, Bomhower Oil and Johnson & Dix and for ten years worked as a carpenter with his son.

Jack was an avid cribbage player who taught his grandchildren and many others to play the game. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and making donuts.

He was predeceased by his wife in July of 2002 as well as a sister Lorraine.

He is survived by a son Keith Ballou of Hartford, VT; three daughters Konni Stagliano of Sagamore Hills, OH, Karen Sanborn of Standish, ME and Kendra Hornbrook of Exton, PA; eight grandchildren; seven brothers Wallace, Wayne, Gerald, Paul, Philip, Harold and Harvey; three sisters Caroline, Carol and Katherine as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Friday from 6-8PM. A remembrance of his life will follow at 8PM. Committal services will be held in the Spring in the Christian Street Cemetery.
