John E. Hathorn

Wilder, VT – John E. Hathorn, 85, died Tuesday December 17th at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT.

He was born a son of Elmer and Ruth (Dickinson) Hathorn. November 19, 1928 in White River Jct., where grew up and graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1948. John was married to Beverly McLoud on August 13, 1950 in White River Jct. and they lived in the Upper Valley all of their lives.

John worked in sales all of his working career, first for his uncle at Hathorn Auto Supply in West Lebanon and then in the building supply industry including American Forest Product, Green Mountain Box Company, Dulac's Hardware and Bethel Mills.

John or "Bump" as he was affectionately called, built several homes for he and his family and also helped many other family and friends build their homes. Whether it be pounding nails, plumbing or wiring, Bump was always ready to lend a helping hand and some advice from his wealth of knowledge about building.

He was a life member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Harford B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1541 in Hartford. He also enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting or hunting for rabbits with his dogs. Most of all he enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

John was predeceased by four brothers: Donald, Gardner, Raymond and William Hathorn and four sisters Virginia Perkins, Ruth Morrison, Helen Fortier, and Phyllis Tresch.

He is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Beverly, of Wilder; his son John M. Hathorn and his fiancé Shannon of Wilder; his daughter Pamela J. Guilbault and her husband Gary of Hartland; nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Jorgenson of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the Christian Street Cemetery in the Spring.
