North Hartland, VT- John F. Bowley, 91, died Friday, November 6, 2015 at home surrounded by his family.
John was born September 18, 1924 in Hartland, VT the son of George and Grace (White) Bowley. He graduated from Windsor High School and joined the Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. Upon his return he went to work for Miller Auto as a mechanic. He later took a position with the State of Vermont Department of Transportation and later with the US Postal Service in White River Junction retiring in 1990. He was married to Eula (Shatney) Withington on April 29, 1982.
John was a NRA Hunter Safety Instructor, needless to say he was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at hunting camp. He loved to camp especially in the backwoods of Maine. John loved taking long rides on back roads and was well known for giving folks nicknames. He loved anything John Deere and had quite a collection. He and his family enjoyed maple sugaring in the springtime.
He is predeceased by three grandchildren, Mathew Bowley, Brianna Baily-Dodge and Brian Jaycox; and two stepsons, Tim Withington and Jake Withington. He is survived by his wife Eula of North Hartland; children John Jr. and his wife Audrey Bowley of Hartland, Thomas and his wife Gay Bowley of Delta Junction, AK, Susan Bowley of Colchester, VT, Sheila Bowley-Krause and her husband Bill of Proctor, VT, Shelly Bowley and her companion Greg Tuttle of Pomfret, VT and Nicholas Bowley of North Hartland; stepchildren, Jean and Mike Walker of Randolph, VT, Barb and Bruce Jaycox of Hartland, Pattie and Donny Ameden of Londonderry, VT and Sandy and Mike Cassidy of Bradford, VT; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction from 11am – Noon immediately followed by a memorial service at noon.
