IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joanne E.
O'Brien Davis
May 8, 1945 – December 4, 2024
Windsor, VT - JoAnne E. O'Brien Davis, 79, died at her home in Windsor on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, surrounded by family. JoAnne was born on May 8, 1945, the youngest of four children of Charles T. and Naomi P. (Vose) O'Brien. She grew up in North Walpole and was a member of the 1963 class of graduates from Bellows Falls High School. On February 19, 1964, she married Nelson Davis and settled in Charlestown, NH where they welcomed four children. In 1979, JoAnne moved to Windsor where she happily lived for the rest of her life. She worked very hard to provide for her family, sometimes at up to four different part-time jobs simultaneously when full-time positions were unavailable. Being friendly, independent, detail focused and organized helped to make her a fixture with the Windsor Chronicle, where she worked for more than 20 years under five different owners until her retirement, for a time accompanied daily by her dog Houston. She was a member of the Windsor Elks Lodge for 28 years and the American Legion Auxiliary for 46 years.
JoAnne, always kind and sweet to humans and animals alike, had a cheery optimism and ability to find the good in everyone and the world. She was a devoted and loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Though the last few years brought mobility and health challenges, she was grateful to be able to remain in her home with the help of her daughters, Tracy and Shelly.
She is survived by four children Tracy Ladue and husband Harry of Windsor, Shelly Davis and partner Gary Stack of South Albany, VT, Melissa Davis of Windsor, and Ralph "Skipper" Davis of Charlestown, NH; two step-daughters Jodie Bartlett and Penny Shambo, both of Hartland, VT; one brother Charles O'Brien of North Walpole, NH; nine grandchildren Cassidy, Brandon, Jordan, Aaron, Jennifer, Jayson, Haley, Farren, and Tanner; nine great grandchildren; her constant canine companion Daisy, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Naomi O'Brien, two siblings Edward O'Brien and Hazel Roy, her longtime past companion Joe Becker, stepson Harold Becker, and her very special friend Maynard "Butch" Boutin.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 1pm until time of service at 2:30 pm at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at the Windsor Elks Lodge. A private committal service will be held next spring at St. Peters Cemetery in Drewsville, NH. Memorial donations are appreciated to an animal shelter of one's choice.
