Joan Harrison
Kersey
August 22, 1928 – August 6, 2019
Lebanon, NH- Joan Harrison Kersey, 90, died on August 6,2019 at Lebanon Center Genesis in Lebanon, NH. Born August 22,1928 to Gladys Loynd and James Harrison in Springville, Utah, Joan grew up in Logan, UT and the surrounding Wasatch mountains. She always preferred the mountains to the seashore.
She earned a bachelor's in Journalism at Utah State University and much later in life a Master's degree in Arts and Liberal studies at Dartmouth College. In her early career, Joan worked for the Salt Lake Tribune, including riding on the presidential campaign train of Thomas Dewey. She later worked briefly on the night desk for Time Magazine. After raising 4 children she finished her career as the volunteer coordinator at the Southern Vermont Correctional Facility in Windsor, VT.
Joan was an avid proponent for conservation. She loved the outdoors and had an extensive knowledge of wild plants and animals. She enjoyed identifying the various birds that visited her bird feeders at homes in New Jersey and Vermont. She was an avid skier; ski racing for Utah State. She also enjoyed watching tennis as well as playing.
Joan is survived by her child, James Kersey and his spouse, Evelyn Adams-Kersey and daughter-in-law, Fonda Kersey. She was preceded in death by her children; Wendy, Diana, Catherine and William. Joan's wish was to be cremated. There will be a memorial service honoring her life in September at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the Sierra Club or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT assisted wit arrangements. Condolences to Joan's family may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com .
