Obituary

Hanover, NH – Joan W. Buchanan, 90, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH.

She was born September 6, 1927, in Dalton, GA a daughter of Thomas and Lois (Parsons) Warmack. Joan spent her youth in Dalton before attending Emory University, where she earned her nursing degree. After graduation she enlisted in US Navy, serving at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, where she met and fell in love with Dr. George C. Buchanan. They were married August 6, 1950, and made their home in Bethesda for the next forty years while Dr. Buchanan practiced in Washington, DC. After his retirement, they moved to Tallahassee, FL, where Joan enjoyed working with her daughter at her art gallery. Following Dr. Buchanan's death in 2008, Joan moved to Hanover, NH to be nearer to her daughters.

Mrs. Buchanan was an independent soul who dedicated her life to supporting her family, especially her husband, children, and grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed horseback riding, decorating, and spending time in her flower gardens.

She was predeceased by her husband, George and a brother Thomas Warmack.

She leaves her daughter Karen Brown, and Karen's husband Charles, of Piermont, NH; her daughter Lauren E. Buchanan, also of Piermont; her son, G. David Buchanan, and his wife Lorrie, of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren Rachael Brown, Sarah Brown, William Brown, Ryan Buchanan Allen, Jesika Allen, Leah Buchanan, and Ian Buchanan; sisters Geneva Pruden of Jamestown, NC and Roselle Warmack of Chattanooga, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her strong family orientation, a family graveside service will be held in the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover at the convenience of her family.
