Joan W. Bomhower, 86, died Thursday December 6, 2018 at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation in Barre, VT.

She was born November 7, 1932 in Hanover, NH the daughter of Royce and Priscilla (Spaulding) Whipple. Joan graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1950 before attending Northampton Commercial College in Northampton, MA. She was married to Richard Bomhower September 19, 1953 in Hanover, NH and they made their home in Wilder, VT. Joan worked at Dartmouth College for thirty years, first in AFROTC and later in Building and Grounds. The couple moved to Florida in 1981, where she worked at Harvey Edwards Craft store. They returned to Vermont in 1998 and Mr. Bomhower died in 2005. Joan was a resident at Brookside Nursing Home for a time until it closed and has been a resident at Berlin Health and Rehab since.

Mrs. Bomhower was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and St. Martha's Guild. She was a former member of the Wilder Woman's Club and Twin State Square Dance Club and was active in Hartland and Grantham Quilt Guilds and the Bugbee Senior Center.

Joan enjoyed crafts of all kinds, especially quilting and was an avid NASCAR fan.

She is survived by her sons Robert L and his wife Pamela of Plainfield and Ray W. of Wilder; grandchildren Rae Lynn and Kameron; great grandchildren Hayley and Aubrey as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in White River Jct. on Friday December 14 ^th at 11AM. Private burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock in the spring.
