Joan M. Ashline

Hartland, VT — Joan M. Ashline, 84, died peacefully at her home on May 29, 2026.

Joan was born on February 1, 1942, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Earl and Pearl Chamberlain. She attended schools in Claremont and graduated from Stevens High School.

Joan met the love of her life, Lawrence Ashline, and the couple married on December 17, 1960. Together they shared 53 years of marriage until his death in December 2013.

They made their home in Hartland, VT where they raised six children - Randy Ashline (Betty) of Hartland, Todd Ashline of Hartland, Rene Ashland (Trina) of Windsor, Terry Ashline (Susan) of Valley City, ND, Kimberly Ashline of Hartland, and Becky Nott (Shawn Newcity) of Hartland.

She worked as a waitress at Red Pines and Wildflowers before opening her own business, Joanie's Family Restaurant in Hartland, where she welcomed customers like family. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending time with her family.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Ashline; her parents, Earl and Pearl Chamberlain; her sister, Janet; her brother, Leo "Skip"; her granddaughter, Emilee Ashline; her grandson, Nick Newcity; and her great-grandson, Carson Smith.

She is survived by her children; her sisters, Jean and Ginger; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, with another expected soon; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.
