Obituary

WINDSOR, VT
Jessie D. Lombard, 91, a former longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Wednesday morning, February 23 in Sylva, North Carolina.
She was born April 13, 1919 in Laconia, NH the daughter of Adeodat (Ed) and Mary (Duggan) Dutrizac. She graduated from Laconia High School in 1937, where she excelled in sports. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree in 1941 from Keene State College in Keene, NH, where she continued to excel in individual and team sports. She received her Master's Degree from Dartmouth College in 1974.
She married Donald W. Lombard in 1947 and was widowed in 1966. She was a Water Safety and Playground Instructor at Opeeche Park in Laconia from 1935 to 1945. She taught school in Belmont and Tilton, NH for three years before moving to Windsor, VT where she taught Home Economics for twenty nine years. In addition to sports, Jessie loved all types of crafts including sewing, knitting, cake decorating, painting, embroidery, weaving and ceramics. Following her retirement from teaching in 1977, she operated "Jessie's Photos" where she artistically expressed her love of nature and landscape through the lens of a camera. She was a longtime member of the John P. Larkin Country Club in Windsor. Jessie traded sewing lessons for golf lessons and discovered that she still had that athletic spirit. No one was surprised, except perhaps Jessie, when one day she hit a "hole in one". She divided her time between Florida and Vermont until 2009 when she moved to North Carolina. Jessie thought that life was a gift and was thankful for each day. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved her family, students and friends and never met a stranger.
Survivors include one son, Douglas A. Lombard and his wife, O. Elizabeth Towne of Middlesex, VT; one daughter, Linda Lombard Hill and her husband, Alan Hill of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren, Jerry Hill and Colleen Hill Corpening; two step grandchildren, Gregory Allard and Margaret Allard Bojanowski; one sister, Virginia Atkinson of Laconia, NH; nephew, Raymond Dutrizac and niece, Ellen Dutrizac Cushman both of Michigan.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Committal services will be in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
