Obituary

Norwich, VT – Jed A. Harris, of Quebec City, Quebec and formerly of Norwich, VT died at his home on July 23, 2017. Jed was the son of Paula Harris of Norwich, VT and Joseph Harris of Claremont, NH. Jed was born in Lafayette, Ind in 1955. The family came to the Upper Valley in 1959 where his father joined the faculty of the Physics Department at Dartmouth College. Jed loved living in Norwich, going to the Norwich School, working, weaving and being with his friends of all ages, working with "Bub" Pierce at the Pierce Farm, Dan Frasier in his woodlot, Berry Booth and her horses, bird watching with Paul Samples, tea and Vermont history with neighbor, Larry Levitt and learning Vermont history and Boy Scouts survival trips with John Henry.

In his teens he enjoyed folk dancing and music, dancing with the PiloBolus dance group when they were in their infancy. He learned to weave, making cloth for his shirts and vests, cutting old coats into strips with the help from his brothers and sister, to weave an 9'x8' rag rug for a family room. Jed spent the fall of 1967 and springs of 1968 & 1969 on a farm high in the Alps in Ticino, Switzerland taking the herd to higher mountains to pasture and make the large wheels of cheese

After high school Jed went to Antioch for three years on a work study program. Then to New York City, living in a loft on Canal Street, doing, free lancing and street theater. Here he met and married Bette Druck of Brooklyn. They had a daughter, Dehlia. They moved to Long Island City to the first story of a three story old industrial building, with the Talking Heads on the second floor and a family friend, Don Cherry, Jazz musician and composer on the third floor. They lived there for two years. Then moved to Salem, NY for two years on a small farm and for two years in Norwich, VT. Jed did carpentry for construction on the Norwich Senior Center. They moved back to New York City where Jed made display cases for Halston, the designer as well as other projects. They divorced. Two years later, he met Odette Sasseville of Quebec City, who was visiting the city. He moved to Quebec, they married and had a son, Louis.

Jed made theater sets, then he began making installations for museums in Montreal and Quebec,, all over the province and some in Ottawa. He had a small European Style Atelier and two assistants. On the last installation he did, he collaborated with a colleague to construct and deliver one of the largest standing glass display cases for the museum at Mt. Vernon.

Jed was known for his intelligent, creative work and problem solving skills. By his colleagues regarded as "The Best in The Business".
