Jean Marc Lamoureux, 80, of White River Junction, Vermont passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont after a brief battle with cancer.

Jean was born on April 17th, 1946, in Sherbrook, Quebec, to Lucienne Dube and Reginald Lamoureux. He was the second son of seven children. Growing up in West Charleston, Vermont, he attended a Catholic school, which is where he met his future wife, Suzanne Routhier. Over the following years, their lives continued to cross, and on September 23rd, 1972, they eloped and married in Rutland, Vermont.

Jean lived an incredibly full life by working a variety of jobs and taking on many different ventures. He began by working on his family’s farm in West Charleston, Vermont. Enlisting in the army in 1967, he later served in Vietnam as an equipment operator in the Alpha Company, 575th Engineer Battalion from 1968-1969. After his marriage in 1972, he and his young family lived throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont operating dairy farms before settling in Wilder, Vermont in 1979, where he began to invest in local real estate rentals and the Wilder Community Care Home, which he and his wife operated until the late 90s. He also began his own excavation business, JML Enterprise, where he worked alongside his son for many years working all over the Upper Valley. He had an undeniable strong work ethic that shaped all that he did.

Jean became an important part of the community by always lending a helping hand when someone was in need, especially for family and friends. His generosity showed through how he would give his time and resources without asking for anything in return. In the months that followed Hurricane Irene, he and his son spent countless hours helping many in need clean up and rebuild after the devastating flooding in West Hartford, Vermont. Helping those he cared about was engrained in him.

Spending time outside was what brought him joy during his free time. Hunting, gardening, sugaring, snowmobiling, and driving around his Jeep were among the many activities he loved to take part in as an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and was a regular over the years at Four Aces, Sheryl’s, Crossroads Café, and The Polka Dot Restaurant, sometimes with a grandchild or two in tow. One of Jean’s greatest joys was being a grandfather. It was not uncommon to see him holding one of his six grandchildren over the years. Known to his grandchildren as Pepere, this may had been the job he took the most seriously. He continued to dote on them from childhood into adulthood, always providing a place for them to go, a seat at his kitchen table, and a snack.

Jean was predeceased by an infant daughter, Crystal. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 54 years, Suzanne, and his children, Shawn Lamoureux and his wife Amanda, and his Daughter Victoria Bassick and her husband Rob; His grandchildren Amanda Gilchrist, Amelia Gilchrist, Erin Gilchrist, Grayson Lamoureux, Eli Lamoureux, and Lucien Lamoureux; and all of his siblings: Guy, Donald, Aline, Claire, Lucien, and Susan. His presence will be missed by them all.

A visitation will take place from 4-6 pm on Monday, September 14th, 2026 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, Vermont. A service celebrating Jean’s life will begin at 5 pm, and will be livestreamed here.
