Wilder, VT – Jean Ann Gilbert, 83, died Saturday May 5, 2018 at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH.
She was born May 15, 1934 in Boston, MA a daughter of Ralph and Iza Virginia (Michaels) Moritz. Jean graduated from Jamaica Plain High School before attending business school in Boston. She worked at the Boston City Libraries for a time and was married to Harold Gilbert May 31, 1953. The Gilberts moved to the Upper Valley in 1960 living first in White River Jct., and later in Enfield, Lebanon and Canaan before settling in Wilder in 1981 where they have lived since. After her family of seven children were in school, Jean began working at Dartmouth College including in the libraries and in facilities maintenance.
Jean enjoyed crafts especially needlework, she also enjoyed gardening and camping and spent many enjoyable trips to White Lake State Park in Tamworth, NH. She and Hal also camped around Vermont while visiting all of the covered bridges in the state. She was an active member of the Hartford Emblem club where she held several offices including president and treasurer. Most of all Jean loved children; spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest love.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hal, in 2006, as well as a brother Ralph Moritz, Jr. and two sisters Lucile Johnson and Charlotte Emmett.
She leaves her children, Kendall Gilbert of White River Jct. and Harold Gilbert Jr. of East Hampton, MA, Karen Cook of Springfield, NH, Sandra Towne of Enfield, NH, Joanne Bickford of Coventry, VT, Deborah MacGilvary of Deland, FL and Ginger O'Shea of Wilder as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Wednesday May 9
th
from 4-6PM with a funeral service following at 6PM. Private burial services will be held in the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
