Obituary

Springfield, VT- Jean Cloud Crosby, 73, of Springfield, VT, died peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon after a brief illness. Born during a snowstorm on February 18, 1952, at Alice Peck Day in Lebanon, NH, she was the daughter of the late Harley Cloud and Joan (Bingham) Cloud.

Jean grew up in Brownsville, Vermont, and was a proud graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1970. She later married the love of her life, Jon "J.R." Crosby, in February of 1998.

A woman of many talents and boundless generosity, Jean was known for her warm heart, her love of knitting, and the joy she found in the simple things—especially getting her nails painted by her granddaughters. Family was always at the center of her life, and she gave her time and love freely to those she cared about.

Jean was a proud and dedicated member of the Windsor Elks Lodge, where she made history as the first female Elk in the state of Vermont, and later as the first female Exalted Ruler. She was honored as Elk of the Year in her very first year, a remarkable and rare recognition of her passion and commitment. Her dedication extended to Silver Towers, where she volunteered countless hours, and to the American Legion in Lebanon, where she remained an active presence.

Jean had a deep love for country music and found comfort and joy in the songs of George Strait, Tammy Wynette, and Rascal Flatts.

She was predeceased by her father, Harley Cloud, stepfather, Ray Spackman; her sister, Carol "Cloudy" Quinn; her brother, Nathan Spackman; and her son-in-law, Bertram Robinson.

Jean leaves behind her husband, Jon "J.R." Crosby; her daughter, Jennifer Robinson and her fiancé Will of Claremont; her son, Jonathan R. Obney of Lugoff, SC; her beloved grandchildren, Ripley, Caitlyn, Claire, Cayli, and Steven; and her stepdaughter, Ashley McCants. She is also survived by her siblings, Richard Cloud of Baltimore, VT, Nancy Dennis of Norwich, VT, and Patricia Bartlett of York, SC, Michael Spackman and Joan Seward both of Brownsville, VT, Susan Jones of Fairfax, VA, and Cheryl Biebel of Sheridan, Wyoming.

A memorial service will take place in the spring on a date to be announced. Knight Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook found at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
