Obituary

Sharon, Vermont-

Jay Alan McPhetres, 54, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born December 30, 1960 in Lebanon, NH, a son of Floyd and Eloise (Reynolds) McPhetres. He grew up in Wilder where he attended elementary school and graduated from Hartford High School. He attended Champlain College where he developed a life-long friendship with a group of people who called themselves the Refugees. He was married to Sunnie Joy Cummings in 1996 in Sharon. He worked at the White River Post Office for 18 years before retiring due to his illness. He was a gunsmith and FFL dealer. In 2000 he was diagnosed with MS. Though this was a struggle he always kept a positive attitude and a network of friends through the internet.

Jay was a proud member of the NRA, he loved cars, snowmobiling, playing paintball, traveling and hunting, especially his trip to Colorado where he successfully hunted elk. The family camp in Tunbridge always had a special place in his heart from all the summers that he spent there. He was a former member of: the Sharon Planning Commission and the Sharon School Board.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife Sunnie of Sharon; a son Crory Moye and his fiancé Jamie Phipps of Salem, NH; two daughters Claire and Andrea McPhetres both of Sharon; his parents Floyd and Eloise McPhetres of Tunbridge; a sister Cynthia McPhetres of Rochester, VT; two brothers, Michael McPhetres and his wife Sherri of Tunbridge, Christopher McPhetres and partner Wendy Mahmood of Royalton, VT; his mother-in-law and caretaker Dorothy Cummings of Sharon; his beloved pug Addie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his Life will be held in the late summer.

Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction assisted with arrangements.
